Description

Over 270 million people in India moved out of poverty between 2005-2006 and 2015-2016, says the 2018 global Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) released here by the United Nations Development Programme and the Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative. The index that was released on September 20 also showed that the poverty rate in the country nearly halved over the 10-year period.

At under 10 per cent of the gross domestic product, the household debt in India is not increasing, and there is no cause for any concerns over it, says a report by SBI Research. "There has been of late a lot of brouhaha over the increasing household leverage in the country. However, such fears are largely unsubstantiated by hard facts," says the research paper.

The Maharashtra Real Estate Regulatory Authority (MahaRera) has directed a Thane developer to pay interest to eight buyers for delaying possession. The builder, Soham Estates, had promised to deliver flats in a high-rise building, Tropical Lagoon, first in December 2016, and then in December 2017.

As many as 46 real estate developers have received notices from the Ghaziabad administration, directing them to register all flats by October 15 or face action. These developers have already given the possession to homebuyers in their projects.
