The Supreme Court will on July 16 hear the final pleas of hassled homebuyers registered with Jaiprakash Associates Limited (JAL). The apex court has said it would exclusively deal with their grievances and the "capability" of realty firm to refund money to them.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on July 14 laid the foundation stone for the Rs 23,000-crore Purvanchal Expressway, saying it will transform the places it passes through. The six-lane expressway, expandable to eight lanes, will connect Uttar Pradesh capital Lucknow with the less developed districts of Azamgarh, Mau, Ghazipur, Faizabad, Sultanpur, Ambedkar Nagar and Amethi. The expressway will begin from Chand Sarai village on the Lucknow-Sultanpur road and end at Haidariya village in Ghazipur.

With the Maharashtra government on July 13 diluting the provision related to the elections of cooperative housing societies, societies that have less than 200 members will be able to conduct elections on their own. Earlier, they had to take permission from the Maharashtra State Cooperative Election Authority to do so. Of more than two lakh cooperative societies in the state, half lakh are cooperative housing societies.

About 200 Unitech homebuyers, who attempted a march to the Prime Minister’s residence on July 15 were stopped midway by the police. The buyers have been demanding that the Centre take over the company board.
