Durgapur is one of West Bengal’s most prominent cities and lies approximately 160 kilometres away from Kolkata. Situated in the Burdwan district. Durgapur was conceived by Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy, Bengal’s second chief minister. This industrial township was planned and designed by Benjamin Polk and Joseph Allen Stein and is home to the Durgapur Steel Plant, one of the biggest industrial units in West Bengal. The Central Mechanical Engineering Research Institute and Alloy Steels Plant of SAIL can be counted as prominent landmarks of Durgapur property.

The area is also home to power projects like the Durgapur Thermal Power Station, Durgapur Projects Limited and Damodar Valley Corporation. Durgapur is also home to one of the country’s most prestigious engineering and technological education institutes, namely the National Insitute of Technology which was earlier known as the Durgapur Regional Engineering College. Such institutions also lend a certain charm to Property in Durgapur. The Grand Trunk Road or National Highway 2 runs through the area and has been further expanded into a four lane Highway as part of the important Golden Quadrilateral project. There is another road that links Panagarh and Santiniketan to the area. The Durgapur Expressway links Dankuni with Memari and allows for swifter communication between Kolkata and Durgapur.

There is a road over the Durgapur Barrage that runs all the way to Bankura and other areas. The area is connected to various destinations in Bengal including Kolkata through a reliable network of Volvo and non-AC buses. Real Estate in Durgapur is an attractive option for investors also for the kind of infrastructure the city offers. Durgapur is home to the railway network that connects Delhi and Kolkata. The Andal Junction is located around 15 kilometres away from the Durgapur City Centre. Durgapur and Panagarh possess airstrips in partnerships with SAIL and the Indian Air Force. A domestic airport is slated to be developed in Andal as well. Durgapur offers seamless access to places like Birbhum, Bankura and even Purulia through the State Highway 9 and the National Highway 2. The National Highway 60 is accessible from the area and runs till Orissa.

The Asian Highway 1 also runs through this area while there are several bus terminuses located at City Center, Station Morh and Benachiti-I and II. An airport city is being developed by Bengal Aerotropolis while the City Centre is a hub for shopping malls and recreation centres.
