Delhi Starts Development Work In Bawana's Unauthorised Colonies

The Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi government on January 29 laid the foundation stone to start development works across 11 unauthorised colonies in Bawana. The works that will cost the government over Rs 22 crore will include construction of 172 lanes, 344 drainage & sewer lines. This work is expected to be completed by August.

The move is expected to offer better living conditions to as many as 40,000 people living in these unauthorised colonies of Bawana.

Bawana has largely been a village that witnessed the coming of an industrial area when a lot of factories operating in the national capital were given land here. The industries created a huge blue-collar workforce and also, many unauthorised colonies. According to a tentative list released by the Delhi government, Ishwar Colony, Rajiv Nagar Begum Pur, Anand Vihar Colony Pooth Khurd, Qutab Garh Enclave Qutab Garh, Mann Enclave Khera Khurd, Begampur Extn.( Begam Vihar Block A B C D E) , Deep Vihar Pansali, Pooth Kalan Perladpur, Prahlad Vihar Near-Sect-25, Durga Enclave Vishal Enclave, Qutub Garh Extn, Nai Basti, Shahbad Extn, Udai Vihar Kanjhawala among others are some of the unauthorised colonies in Bawana.

Apart from the lack of basic infrastructure, livability is compromised owing to the presence of small and medium-scale factories that may not adhere to safety instructions and time and again receive notices from the National Green Tribunal. The recent example could be the fire that broke out last year in a factory claiming almost 20 lives.

Despite being early-on in the development phase, Bawana does have some affordable property options. Plotted developments are most common and available within Rs 20 lakh. On the whole, while industrial and commercial land parcels have been considered by businesses, demand for residential properties is low. Prospective homebuyers can expect a favourable time in near future post developmental works undertaken by the state government has taken shape.
