Mhada Housing Scheme 2019: Lottery For 217 Homes In Mumbai Declared
The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (Mhada) has declared the result of lottery draw for 217 homes, located in Chembur and Powai. Most of these units are in the LIG and MIG category. These flats are priced between Rs 31-39 lakh. The most expensive home in this lottery is priced at Rs 56 lakh. Over, 66,000 applications were received for 217 homes.
Last year, the agency offered certain homes at 30-70 per cent of the ready reckoner rates. These were the units which have been surrendered by allottees of previous schemes. Units meant for the economically weaker sections (EWS) were sold at 30 per cent of the ready reckoner rate while homes meant for the low-income category were sold at 50 per cent of RR. Units meant for the middle-income category were 60 per cent of the RR rate while the flats meant for the high-income group were for 70 per cent of the RR.
While rates of properties offered by the Mhada are comparatively lower, experts were of the opinion the agency must rationalise prices.
“In the last few lotteries, Mhada’s housing rates were hardly any different from those quoted by private builders. This resulted in reduction in the number of applications. The state government should step in, reduce taxes and subsidise these houses,” a sector expert was quoted by Hindustan Times as saying.

Those with a monthly income of Rs 25,001-50,000 can apply in the low-income group (LIG) category. Middle-income group (MIG) buyers are classified from Rs 50,001-75,000 while those earning over this limit are eligible to purchase high-income group (HIG) flats.
