Common Mobility Card For Hyderabad Commuters By Jan’19
Commuters in Hyderabad will soon be able to travel seamlessly across all transport systems in the city as the state government in collaboration with the Hyderabad Metro Rail Corporation is all set to implement a pilot project of common mobility card by end of January next year. This move will allow passengers traveling in public transport to use this card in buses, autos, Metro trains, multi-modal transit system (MMTS) and other modes of transports. The project will initially be implemented at two metro stations, 100 RTC buses and 50 auto-rickshaws near Metro catchment areas. The new system will help save time and efforts for the passengers while curtailing expenditure made by the government.
L&T Metro Rail in collaboration with State Bank of India will implement the new smartcard ticketing system.
Aimed at promoting digital transaction under Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) system, the initiative is a part of the Smart National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) model launched by the Ministry of Urban Development with the objective to ensure seamless travel across all transport systems and to enable one card usability in all payment systems, including transit operators, retail shopping and purchases across the country.
The benefits
Saves time: The inter-operable NCMC card will help commuters save their time and efforts by eliminating the need to stand in long queues at the ticket counters.
Saves money: The single open-loop card will serve as a debit card while providing users with best customer support. While it means a lesser expenditure for the government for making tickets, users can expect some discounts through this cashless transaction. For instance, the Delhi government is offering 10 per cent discount on all state-run buses for the use of such card.
How it works
Depending of the use of the transport mode, the fare will be deducted from the passenger’s mobility card and directly deposited to the account of the concerned organisation such as the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC), the Hyderabad Metro Rail, the Hyderabad Multi-Modal Transport System (MMTS), and other private app-based cab services.
