Flyover, Underpass To Decongest Gurgaon's HUDA City Centre Junction
To decongest some of the key areas of Gurgaon, the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority plans to construct a two-way flyover and a right-turn underpass at the HUDA City Centre junction in next 12 months. To make this project a reality by December 2019 or early 2020, the GMDA has now invited bids.
This project will be constructed to decongest the crowded stretch between Signature Towers and Bakhtawar Chowk, passing through IFFCO Chowk and Golf Course Road. This tri-way junction has been facing traffic woes since the past eight years, and the commuters’ crowd from the Delhi Metro’s Yellow Line has only made the situation worse.
The Rs 43-crore project will have a 705-metre (m) underpass and a 270-m bi-drectional flyover. The underpass will be constructed to serve commuters from the Signature Towers to Subhash Chowk. This underpass will start 250 m before the HUDA City Centre Metro Station and will end after the Taj City Centre. On the other hand, the flyover will be built to help commuters between sector road and the MF Husain Marg. The carriageway will be 10.5-m wide, with a 0.5-metre-wide crash barrier and a 1.2-m-wide median.
Besides this, the GMDA is also planning to come up with foot overbridges at the Signature Towers and near IFFCO Chowk Metro Station.
Various temporary fixes over the last few years have failed to put a check on the traffic situation in the Huda City Centre area. Between 2010 and now, jersey barriers, roundabouts, one-way roads, etc., have been tried but none so effective as the proposed flyover is expected to be.
