Hyderabad's Digital Door Numbering System To Be Launched In 6 Months
Hyderabad is looking at an efficient way of addressing big and small problems using geospatial and cloud computing technology. The city is keen to adopt the Digital Door Numbering (DDN) project. It would help create a uniform address system for all homes across the city.
How is it helpful?
It is clear that now running around frantically for a particular address may not be a problem anymore. Besides, by tagging all units, electricity and water boards can ensure that each family has a separate unit for metering. Meanwhile, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) will not just maintain a record of buildings in the city but will also increase its revenue by ensuring property tax compliance.
The Rs 15 crore-worth project in the GHMC will cover 22 lakh households in the region and the schedule for completion is estimated to happen within six months. As of now, the Commissioner and Director Municipal Administration is inviting agencies to take up the DDN project. For every additional property, Rs 70 would be charged per unit additionally. The entire project would be supervised by the GHMC Commissioner with a special commission.
As for vacant land, post a door-to-door survey and a DDN would be generated using advanced technology.
Not the first of its kind
On a pilot basis, the GHMC had undertaken the DDN project in Gaganmahal and Domalguda in 2016 but the project was shelved owing to lack of response. Currently, the project is being considered in Moosapet.
The project will help not just homeowners but tax inspectors as well.
