The joint committee on the contentious Land Bill on December 18 got a fresh extension till the end of the Monsoon Session next year to table its report in Parliament. Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan informed the House that she extended the term of the panel till the last day of the Monsoon Session, 2018, as the report could not be finalised till the extended timeline, which ended on December 15. Some parties have been demanding that the committee be scrapped because it had served no purpose till now, and that the government had lost interest in the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement (Amendment) Bill, 2015.

Properties belonging to people who left India for countries such as Pakistan and China after the partition would soon be disposed of, with Home Minister Rajnath Singh giving his approval for the same. The home minister has said that considering the importance of the new provisions in the Enemy Property Act, 2017, which was amended recently to include disposal/transfer of enemy properties, the rules might be notified soon.

In a written reply to the Rajya Sabha, Environment Minister Harsh Vardhan has said that the Centre has formulated the National Clear Air Programme (NCAP). "The government has formulated the NCAP as a long-term time-bound national-level strategy to tackle the increasing air pollution problem across the country in a comprehensive manner," the minister said.

Non-profit Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment (GRIHA) has launched a rating system for houses constructed under the government's affordable housing scheme, indicating their level of sustainability. The star-rating of these projects would range between one and five. This would help consumers know about the sustainability of the houses, GRIHA Council Chief Executive Officer Sanjay Seth said. The new rating would facilitate integration of relevant features for optimal sustainability in the affordable-housing segment.
