The Centre will soon initiate the process for standardisation of equipment, data and all other parameters required to measure purity of air, Environment Minister Harsh Vardhan has said. The minister said that experts were of the opinion that the standards in use for measuring PM 2.5 and PM 10 levels of pollution etc., were far more than the actual standards. "If it is so, there is an urgent need to set these standards because otherwise you keep frightening your people," he said.

The Kerala government has decided to amend the state Panchayat Raj Act and Municipalities Act with an aim to regularise unauthorised buildings, constructed on or before July 31, 2017. Unauthorised constructions would be regularised without compromising on the safety and strength of the structure, and the owners will have to pay a compound fee to avail of the benefits of this move.
