The Maharashtra Legislature on June 20 approved the proposal to bring Palghar and Raigad districts under the jurisdiction of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA). It was in February that the state government had given its approval to expand the MMRDA by 2,000 square kilometre, with districts, including Panvel, Raigad, Vasai, Alibaug, Khalapur, Pen and Palghar.

Over two crore homes will be constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) in the next three years, President Ram Nath Kovind said on June 20 while addressing both the houses of Parliament. Women, Kovind said, will be given priority in registration of homes in rural areas under this scheme.

The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Authority on June 20 launched an open-ended plot scheme that will have up on offer plots for industrial, mixed-use and institutional purposes. The plots under the scheme are located at sectors 24, 29, 32, and 33, all in proximity to the proposed international airport at Jewar in Greater Noida. The authority will offer plots, available in sizes between one and 15 acre, to interested investors depending on the demand.

The average power consumption in Delhi during peak heatwave days in June had increased by 25 per cent, a study by Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) showed. According to the CSE, the consumption of power to run air conditioners during peak heatwave time had put all climate change mitigation and energy security actions in the red. This trend was expected to worsen nationally as the heat index and climatic stress was continuously increasing, the report said.
