Irked with their failure to notify solid waste management norms, the Supreme Court has banned construction activity in several states, including Chandigarh, Maharashtra and Uttarakhand. Sector experts say real estate and several other related industries will have to bear the brunt of states’ inaction on solid waste management.

The Uttar Pradesh Housing and Urban Planning Department has issued directives that are aimed at simplifying online building map approvals. Maps of low-risk properties (residential plots that measure up to 2,000 square metre), say officials, will be approved in 48 hours even if officials fail to do the needful within that time frame.

After an amendment in the Maharashtra Apartment Ownership Act (MAOA) was approved by President Ram Nath Kovind, it would require only the permission of 51 per cent of the residents to carry out the redevelopment of old buildings in Mumbai. Earlier, consent of all residents was required to undertake such projects.

Residents of Gurgaon on September 2 got a connectivity boost as Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar launched a city bus service, named Gurugaman. Initially, 25 low-floor non-air conditioned buses would travel a 12-kilometre distance between Sector 10 and Huda City Centre Metro Station, covering major junctions in the city such as IFFCO Chowk, Atul Katariya Chowk and Hero Honda Chowk.
