The government is set to announce the names of the last set of cities to be made smart under its flagship Smart City Mission. A total of 45 cities participated in the third round of the challenge, of which 40 cities are expected to be selected.

The government has issued a clarification, saying that no ongoing or future projects can be advertised without registering these with the Real Estate Regulatory Authority in the state concerned. Section 3 (1) of the Real Estate (Regulation & Development) Act, 2016, prohibits advertisements for all projects- ongoing and future without registration with the regulator. This provision came into effect from May 1 this year.

The power ministry has set a target of Rs 35,000 crore annual savings by making all existing and future state-owned and commercial buildings in the country energy efficient in the next few years. The government is aiming to achieve this goal through the Energy Conservation Building Code, 2017. The code will push application of energy efficient lighting and appliances.

The National Green Tribunal has issued notices to the Haryana state government and the forest department, seeking replies by July 3 on the alleged violation of the provisions of the Forest (Conservation) Act, 1980. It has been alleged that provisions of the law were diluted by the state to encroach the natural conservation zone in the Aravalis.
