WB Govt's LIG Housing Scheme May Offer Flats Under Rs 10L
The West Bengal government is planning a housing scheme called Nijoshree aimed at individuals with a monthly salary of less than Rs 30,000. It will provide affordable housing to the low-income group and the economically weaker sections. The decision for this project is an outcome of the success the government witnessed with the Banglar Bari rehabilitation scheme. Under this scheme, the slum-dwellers in Kolkata and other municipalities across the state were given an apartment each.
Here are some facts about this scheme:
Size and number of units: The apartments under the scheme are divided into two categories – 1BHK and 2BHK. While the 1BHK apartments will have a carpet area of 378 square foot (sqft), the 2BHK apartments will be spread in 559 sqft area. Over 50,000 such units will be constructed in total and are estimated to be delivered in the next two to three years. These apartments will be constructed on land available with different development bodies of the state government.
Price point: These apartments will be priced minimally. For a 1BHK apartment, the buyer will have to pay Rs 7.28 lakh while for a 2BHK apartment the price tag will be Rs 9.26 lakh.
Target audience: The Nijoshree scheme will be aimed at people in the low-middle income groups. Individuals with a monthly salary of less than Rs 30,000 will be able to avail of an apartment under this scheme. Under the two categories, people with monthly income of less than Rs 15,000 will be able to avail of 1BHK apartments while the ones falling in the bracket of Rs 15,000 to Rs 30,000 will be eligible to purchase the 2BHK units.
