To check groundwater extraction, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) has ordered fresh inspections at all major building sites across Delhi-NCR, including Noida, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad and Gurgaon, The Times of India reported. Agra has topped the list of the cities to be developed in to a smart city in the first phase development of the Smart Cities Mission, according to a ETRealty.com report. The report added that a total of 1,28,447 votes were cast in the favour of smart city project on mygov.in website, which was more than 81 per cent higher than Jhansi. States have spent only Rs 4,255.57 crore out of the collected Rs 24,014.51 crore as construction workers welfare tax till September 30, the government informed Parliament on December 3. According to a PTI report, under the Building and Other Construction Workers' Welfare Cess Act 1996, realty developers are required to pay cess of one per cent of the total cost of construction incurred by the employer. The cess was levied for augmenting the resources of the Building and Other Constructions Workers Welfare Board, the report added. Read more

 

The Navi Mumbai town planning authority – City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) , on December 3 announced its first smart city project in the satellite town. It has envisaged an investment of Rs 34,777.40 crore which will be completely funded by the authority, according to news agency PTI. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will make the announcement for smart city 'Navi Mumbai South' on December 4. Read more

 

The Urban Development Ministry released a sum of Rs 1,062.27 crore in this financial year to 13 states as first instalment under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) , which aims at ensuring water supply and sewer connections to all households in 500 cities, according to ETRealty.com. These 13 states are Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, West Bengal, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Haryana, Telangana, Jharkhand and Mizoram. Read more
