Description

The Kalkaji Mandir-Botanical Garden Line of the Delhi Metro, which would reduce travel time between Noida and south Delhi, would be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 25. After the new section of the Delhi Metro is opened, commuters will be able to travel directly to the Kalkaji Mandir Metro Station, which is on the Violet Line. Currently, for travelling to south Delhi areas, commuters from Noida have to change trains, from the Blue Line to the Violet Line, at the Mandi House Metro Station.

After the Centre raised the issue of under-utilisation of funds under the Swachh Bharat Mission, the Delhi government on December 17 said the municipal corporations were "not able to spend much", and hence additional funds could not be claimed in 2016-17 and 2017-18. Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri recently wrote to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, stating that Rs 104.75 crore were released by the ministry in 2015 against the allocation of Rs 349.75 crore, sources said. Of this, only Rs 32.52 crore has been spent so far.

The matters related to the administration of the real estate law for the regulation of the sector will be dealt by the Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry, an official order has said. The Central government has amended the Government of India (Allocation of Business) Rules, 1961, in this regard. The work of the Real Estate (Regulation & Development) Act, 2016, which mandates the establishment of the Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA) , will be looked after by the urban affairs ministry, the order issued by the Cabinet Secretariat said.

At least 12 people were killed when a fire broke out at a shop in Mumbai's Saki Naka-Kurla area in the early hours of December 18. The blaze erupted in the shop at the Makaria Compound on the Khairani Road around 4.25 am, following which the structure collapsed, an official of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's disaster management cell said.
